A spirit house is a little shrine built to honor the guardians of the land in East Asia.

Daily offerings are made, in these ancient animistic rituals, where it is believed Nature's potent power is infused in objects of the land such as trees, stones, houses and so on. Making the spirit house a focal point is a way of honouring these soul-essences or spirits of the land and so helps cultivate a harmonious relationship with nature.

The architecture of the little shrine, and the offerings made to it tend to reflect the dominant spirit that has been invited to stay there. Since much of my work involves metal, and this house has been fashioned entirely out of it, I look at it as a friendly gesture to the metal spirits.
