I made the rough piece first which inspired the smaller, more detailed version.

I felt the bigger piece was too rough to go it alone so I paired it with the amber figure to balance it out, but now I'm not so sure it was necessary.

There is a tendency to value something laboured on over that which is effortless, the finished piece over the unpolished sketch. But sometimes, the raw and unworked can be invigorating because you can feel the spirit in which it was made where the artist's hand was relaxed and free to catch the line.
