Chalk

Materials: white chalk and pastel on black paper, white frame with glass.

Dimensions: (h)47cm x (w)37cm x (d)3.15cm

Weight: 1.25kg

This chalk drawing was made, with permission, from a photo taken by Dick Sweet, 1996.

The technique used here involved filling in roughly the shape of the figure in white chalk on black paper, and then erasing the chalk bit by bit to reveal the finished form.

Because it is quite a subtractive method, it is almost a sculptural way of drawing, and while a touch time consuming it felt playful to use such a delicate method to represent this figure of great physical strength.
