"The body catches what the mind misses." - Gabor Maté,
author of 'When the Body Says No'

'The Compassionate Intentions of Illness' - Dr. Tony Humphreys

The stomach is an amplifier of the brain: there are more nerve fibres running up from the stomach to the brain, than there are running down from the brain to the stomach. Information is taken in via the senses, interpreted in the brain's emotional centres which then travels down to the stomach where the interpretation or feeling is amplified and sent back to the brain. Hence the term 'gut feeling.'

What if we ignore these feelings? When we cut them off in repression or supression, the information still travels to the gut which will continue to respond with muscle contractions, blood flow changes, and the secretion of a multitude of biologically active substances (hormones). While all of these are essential for survival, they can turn toxic when kept at high levels. And this can lead to illness.

Furthermore, when we do not line ourselves up with what we truly value, our energy becomes divided and the self is thrown off kilter making us unsteady and prone to faltering.
